Starting Monday, February 7, the City will offer a loaner recycling cart program for residents who need more recycling capacity during the pandemic. The program will be offered to residents on a temporary basis.
“We understand that more residents are at home now and generating more waste. This recycling cart loaner program provides more space to recycle all clean bottles, cans, jugs, jars, papers and cardboard,” said Jennifer Vieira, Acting Director of Facilities and Fleet Management .
Eligibility is as follows:
- Single-family homes can receive one 65-gallon recycling cart per package.
- Two-family homes can receive one 95-gallon recycling cart per package.
- Multi-family homes with three, four, five or six units can receive one 95 gallon recycling cart per package.
- Mixed-use and commercial buildings that are part of the City’s collection program can receive one 95-gallon recycling cart per package.
There will be no delivery charge for the carts, which are the standard blue bins with the orange lid and wheels on the back. Residents must have already purchased minimum quantities of trash cans and recycling carts from the City. Carts offered under the temporary program are available for recycling only and should not be used for garbage.
To request a recycling cart, please contact the Department of Facilities and Fleet Management by phone at (508) 961-3008 or by email at [email protected] Requests made before noon on Wednesday will be delivered by waste management contractors on Thursday or Friday of that week, depending on staffing.

The Cart will remain the property of the City, and the City will have the right to reclaim the Cart at any time. If an owner wishes to return the cart, they can call (508) 961-3008 to arrange pickup.
