Funeral for teenager killed in golf cart accident – ​​The Morning Sun

A Mt. Pleasant teenager who died in a golf cart accident early Tuesday had graduated from high school that spring and was a “budding hip-hop musician,” his family said in an obituary.

A funeral service for Josiah Jeremiah Hernandez-Wemigwans will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Gym.

Wemigwans was a proud new father graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School with the class of 2022 at age 16.

He died in the early hours of Tuesday morning when a golf cart overturned in the city’s Horizon Park, Mt. Pleasant police said. A companion, also 16, was treated for minor injuries.

“Josiah was a budding hip-hop musician and loved performing,” his family said. “He loved his family and was proud to father his wonderful daughter, Selena. Josiah was a pure soul and loved everyone he met. He was also loved in return.

Among those who remembered him on social media was his fifth-grade teacher, who stayed close to him and spoke of his pride in talking about his daughter.

“As I took the time to get to know him, I found he was smart, caring, and his family meant everything to him,” Malessa Parker-Wing said. “He was always helpful and showed me so much respect.”

An aunt also shared comments about her caring nature.

“He was always concerned for the well-being of his mother and sister, and now his baby girl,” Marilee Fleming said, also on Facebook.

Family members will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday mornings at 3754 Digwaagi Lane, Mt. Pleasant.

Josiah is survived by his daughter, Selena Emory Hernandez-Wemigwans; special friend, Rachel Howard; mother, Suzanne Wemigwans; father, Alexandro Hernandez, Sr.; sister, Sara Wemigwans and Waasnodeh Davis-Hernandez; brother, AJ Hernandez, Jr.; and grandparents, Harold Bruno Wemigwans, Jacqueline Wemigwans, among others.
