INSTACART INTRODUCES CART STAR, NEW CUSTOMER REWARDS PROGRAM

“Shoppers are an important part of the Instacart community, helping us invite the world to share the love through food,” said Tom Maguire, vice president of operations and care at Instacart. “They balance empathy and efficiency with communication and problem solving, and we’re excited to unveil our Cart Star program to recognize top buyers with impactful incentives that help them stand out to their customers, improve their access to income and achieve their personal goals.

To qualify for Cart Star, shoppers will accumulate points based on the number of orders they fulfill, earning 10 points per customer order they buy or deliver. Gold Cart purchasers will have earned 200 points, Platinum Cart will have earned 1000 points and diamond cart will have earned 2,000 points during the same three-month qualifying period. Buyers must also maintain an average rating of 4.7 to gain access to the program.

To support shoppers on the platform, Instacart partners with other rewards providers, including Care.com to help shoppers with Backup Care for loved ones when needed. diamond cart buyers will have access to two days of Backup Care per quarter, for the price of $1 per hour or $10 per day. If a buyer has unexpected care needs for a child, senior, or pet, they can use Care.com for emergency care.

Shoppers at all levels of the Cart Star program will have access to cash back on gas and car maintenance discounts through partnerships with Upside and CarAdvise, respectively. With Upside, Gold Cart buyers can receive up to 29 cents cash back per gallon at thousands of participating stations nationwide, while Platinum and diamond cart buyers can receive up to 33 cents per gallon of cash back. On top of the already reduced prices, Instacart’s partnership with CarAdvise offers Gold Cart shoppers an additional 25% off an oil change, and Platinum and diamond cart buyers get an additional 50% off an oil change.

Instacart also offers enhanced in-app features for shoppers at different levels of the Cart Star program to help them increase their access to revenue and prizes on the platform. Platinum and diamond cart buyers will receive recognition in the Instacart app, telling customers when their buyer has reached that status as well as useful information like the number of orders purchased and how long the buyer has been on the platform. In testing, customers who saw a Top Buyer badge on their buyer’s profile were more likely to leave their buyer a higher rating and a higher tip.

In addition, diamond cart shoppers who are near a store location, as indicated by a highlighted area in the Shopper app, will have priority access to bundles. They will also have exclusive early access to bundles with the ability to accept bundles before stores open.

The Cart Star program was developed based on feedback from shoppers and focuses on Instacart’s commitment to recognition and rewards for the best of the group. This announcement is the fourth and final in Instacart’s multi-month rollout of new commitments to the shopping community, following support while you shop and beyond in March, ingredients to win on your terms in April, and a community built on the best intentions in May.
