Rockin’ and Rollin’ in Slidell’s Golf Cart Parade in This ‘Mystery Machine’

SLIDELL (WGNO) – Christmas is rockin’ and rollin’ in Slidell with its annual ‘Golf Cart Parade’. Community golf cart drivers have decorated their golf carts and will be delivering special Christmas treats to children along the parade route.

WGNO’s Kenny Lopez got a glimpse of one of, if not the best, golf cart this year to ride in the parade.

It’s no mystery how much Miss Bonnie Vanney loves participating in Slidell’s Christmas ‘Golf Cart Parade’. For this year’s parade, she creatively designed her golf cart to look like Scooby Doo’s “Mystery Machine.”

“He just makes me laugh,” she said.

Even Scooby and the gang would struggle to figure out the best way to decorate a golf cart.

“You have to think about how you’re going to attach all of this to a golf cart because you’re limited as to what you can or cannot attach to it,” she said.

Basically, Miss Bonnie makes a big blanket, decorates it, and attaches it to the golf cart.

So what do the neighbors think of Miss Bonnie’s “Mystery Machine”?

“They never know what I’m going to pull out of the garage into. I use it in parades, but I also ride around the neighborhood drinking beer,” she said.

No beer here today, but she hopes the sight of her cart will spark fear in the eyes of the mayor’s wife, Peggy Cromer.

“Our war continues because I called her last week and told her I found out what she was ordering for her golf cart and she got a little out of shape. It’s a friendly war” , Vanney said.

Peggy Cromer said: “She’s been working on her cart all year and she says she’ll be better than mine, it’s great competition.”

“Let’s face it, have you ever seen a golf cart that looks like this?” It will not happen. It’s okay, it’s okay,” said Miss Bonnie enthusiastically.

“And you don’t get anything but saying mine is better, but I can say mine is better too,” Peggy Cromer said.

Who is the most festive golf cart? Well, it’s a mystery for Scooby Doo and the gang to solve!

The Slidell Golf Cart Parade will take place on Sunday, December 5 starting at 5 p.m. at Slidell Town Hall and will pass through Old Town.
