Many people follow the traffic rules in India only because they are afraid that the police will catch them and throw challans at them. Afraid of being issued a challan, a vegetable vendor wears a helmet even as he pushes his cart. A video of the vegetable seller was shared by a police officer on Twitter and it is going viral.

A police officer named Bhagwat Prasad Pandey shared the video on October 8 and it has received over 4.13 lakh views so far. Arrested by a police officer for wearing a helmet while pushing his vegetable cart, the man said he saw many people on two-wheelers turn around after seeing the police barricade. Afraid of being turned away, the man borrowed a helmet from someone and wore it while pushing his vegetable cart.

The police then explain to him that the helmet is only necessary when driving a two-wheeler. They joke that since he “drives a 4×4”, he doesn’t need to wear a helmet. They tell him to return the helmet and only push his cart to the side of the road. They all share a laugh at the innocence of the vegetable seller.

Pandey captioned the post in Hindi, which loosely translates to “No Fear, but Awareness Needed.”

“That’s an awesome video sir… you earn respect.” There should be love and care between citizens and officers. Whenever someone sees ‘Kaki’ they should feel safe rather than worried,” one Twitter user commented. “Really innocent,” said another. “Simplicity at its finest,” wrote a third.
