The annual West Orange Junior Service League golf cart Christmas parade kicked off on Sunday evening, a week after it was postponed due to a scare.
Police have a lot more patrols and closed downtown Winter Garden much earlier.
“We’ve got the speakers, we’re ready to go,” said Brandon Bayliss, who is in the parade with his son Luke. “We are in the Christmas spirit.
Sheila Eldredge and her dog Summer arrived early to watch the parade.
“I am very excited,” Eldredge said. “We missed a game last week, so now we’re ready to come. I brought my husband back from Indian Harbor Beach.
It’s a parade remade after a big scare last Sunday, causing the parade to be canceled shortly after its start.
Winter Garden Police say Terryus Baker was rushing through the city center when he crashed into another car, got out of it, and then fled.
All of this happened as dozens of people gathered while waiting for the parade to start. Investigators said Elizabeth Chavez was also in the car and taken into custody. The parade organizer is optimistic for a successful redesign of the parade.
“We’re so excited everyone’s back and we’re going to do it again and it’s going to be awesome this time around,” said Kelly Dellattre, parade organizer.
Last Sunday, two children were inside the car and were handed over to other family members.
Profits from those who participated in the parade today are donated to charities in the Winter Garden area.
